globalization, economic development, and A-bombs?!

Well, I thought I was teaching English to second language learners. But, nooo. Clearly I am the one who is being taught! The last essay I assigned to my writers (Argue for or against China's investment in the visiting scholars program) became a license to unleash economics chatter and technological jargon, some of which I don't even know how to use, never mind correct!

Keeping in mind that this class is a group of professors in agriculture, physics, engineering, what have you, take a look at some of their work and tell me they don't write better than YOU:

"On the one hand we face an increasing trend of globalization. Globalization is the inevitable result of the development of productive forces and advances of science and technology, especially the revolution of information technology since the 1990s. Sending scholars abroad adapted to the need for globalization."

"In summary, even though China currently faces many serious social problems, China will benefit greatly from sending visiting scholars abroad in the areas of economic development, technological progress, and cultural communication, which are useful to deal with China’s poverty, unemployment, pollution and so on."

"The father of two bombs, Deng Jiaxian, used to study at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He utilized what he learned to research how to make the H-bomb and the A-bomb. The fruits of his research enhanced our military power and shocked foreign governments."

You can say shocked again...geez.
